DESCRIPTIONThis conference is aimed at legal aid lawyers who want to develop and improve their training skills. Priority will be given to lawyers who will participate in state or regional trainings. The training is limited to 20 participants. Because of the limited number of participants, we will try to balance participants by state and program. After completion of this seminar, participants will be able to: identify the learning characteristics of their audience; pick instructional methods which have the best learning outcome values, based on adult learning principles; use the brainstorming method of instruction, review the best use of the demonstration technique of instruction; participate in a “snowball exercise” and describe the technique; review the steps in good instructional design; observe and describe effective facilitation skills in small group teaching; practice effective “openings” for your training presentation; describe three different types of well-scripted panel sessions; design a unit of instruction for a conference or for their organization that meets the needs of the audience and implements at least two instructional methods. We are not applying for CLE credits for this training. TRAINERSThe course trainer is David Cruickshank of the Continuing Professional Education Institute.
